What to eat to gain weight

scale1.jpgThere are a variety reasons you may want to gain weight. While most other people these days are looking to lower weight, you may want to gain weight to easier build muscles. Or, perhaps, you have been told that you are underweight for your age and height.

Regarless of the reason you want to lose weight, there are certain ways you need to about doing it. For starters, increasing your intake of junk and greasy foods is simply not the way to do it. This is because junk foods normally contain trans fats or saturated fats that are extremely unhealthy for you. Even though you want to increase calories to gain weight, you should get them from calories and food that are good for you.

Some healthy fats can include omega-3 essential fatty acid sources — tuna, flax, walnuts, salmon, etc. Also, good sources of protein can include fish, nuts, poultry, and lean meets. Healthy sources of carbohydrates includes vegetables, whole grains, and fruits.

When eating these healthy fats, you may find it easier to eat several (5-6) small sized balanced meals each day as opposed to eating larger main meals. This is especially true if you are not used to eating a whole lot at a single sitting.

In addition to healthy food and fats, you may want to add in protein powders and other nutritional supplements drinks (Ensure comes to mind) that can be included as an in-between meal snack. This is only if you need more calories, though. Some of these protein powders came flavored and only need you to add water — others are blended to add good taste.
